Round table "Revival of the pomological garden: the gene pool and selection of the future"

In the village of Almalyk, Talgar district, Almaty region, a round table "Revival of the pomological garden: the gene pool and selection of the future" was held, organized by the Kazakh Research Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Growing. Rector of the Kazakhstan University of Engineering and Technology G. A. Sarsenbekova took part in the expert discussion of the problems and mechanisms of garden restoration, preservation and expansion of the gene pool of foreign and domestic selection of fruit and berry crops and grapes. During the round table, the participants discussed the key problems of the nursery and the world experience in preserving the gene pool of perennial crops, determined the conceptual directions of the action plan for the revival of the pomological garden, and also prepared a draft application for granting it the status of the national heritage of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The round table was attended by the first Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, President of the Kazakhstan Association of Producers and Processors of Grapes, Nuts, Fruit and Vegetable Products Sergey Tereshchenko, Director of the Department of Production and Processing of Plant Products of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sultanov Azat, Deputy of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Irina Smirnova, Chairman of the Board of the National Agrarian Scientific and Educational Center Isayeva Gulmira, who noted that the issue is being considered acutely, giving the garden a special status, it is necessary to conduct an inventory of the institution, to restore the lost varieties, invitro expressed its opinion about increasing the gene pool, considering the possibilities to expand the collection of the garden to 7 thousand varieties.

"Today, the scientists of the institute are working hard to preserve the gene pool of grapes, fruit and berry crops, valuable varieties of domestic and selected varieties. But, despite the efforts of scientists, this question is still relevant. I believe that this event, held in the Pomological Garden of Talgar district of Almaty region, was important for bringing together the best specialists in the industry and identifying ways to solve this problem."- Gulnar Alibekovna noted about the work of the round table.
