ON THE EVE OF THE REFERENDUM: BHI CHAIR "FOR CLEAN AND AFFORDABLE ELECTRICITY"
On September 30, 2024, a scientific seminar on the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Republic of Kazakhstan was held at the Department of Biochemical Engineering.

Associate Professor of the Department, Candidate of Chemical Sciences Sharbanu Akkazinovna Muzdybayeva explained the basic concepts of nuclear energy in an accessible way.

The issues of the impact of nuclear energy on the environment and on the economic development of the Republic of Kazakhstan were also discussed.

The seminar was attended by teachers and students of the university.

At the end of the seminar, it was noted that nuclear energy is the safest for the environment and at the same time a stable source of electricity that can meet the demand of the population of Kazakhstan. Despite the high cost of nuclear power plant construction, in the long term this source is advantageous due to low raw material costs, high utilization of installation capacity, and almost complete independence from location (the exceptions are, perhaps, regions with a high risk of earthquakes, but this problem is also solvable). These factors make the development of nuclear energy the most promising direction among other "green" energy sources.
