Speech by METU students about multilinguality in Kazakhstan

Today, October 24, 2024, a practice-oriented Debate was held at METU in Almaty on the topic: “Multilingualism - as a trend in the development of modern Kazakhstan.” The event was attended by 1st year students of group PI-24-1.3 and practical teachers of the department of “SRS and MY”, associate professor Tukebaeva Zhanyl Aubakirovna and master of historical sciences Nurtazaeva Alima Berikkaraevna and discussed multilingualism in the process of formation and development of a multicultural personality.

In one hour, students refreshed their knowledge of history, Kazakh, Russian and English, Czech languages, learned about the traditions and cultural characteristics of Kazakhstan, Russia, England and the Czech Republic.

A student of the group, Tursynkhan Erasyl, expressed his opinion that in order to solve the problems of developing multilingualism in an educational institution, it is necessary to instill the importance of civic values ​​in the individual, activate citizenship, preserve spiritual and moral traditions, and Amangeldi Amina shared her experience of learning the Czech language while studying in Prague and expressed her point of view that the relevance of multilingual education today is determined by the global trend towards integration in culture, economics and politics. At the end of the Debate, participants learned about interlingual homonyms, or words that sound the same in Russian and Kazakh, but have opposite meanings. There were some interesting phrases, the translation of which was not so easy for the guests. There were also interesting presentations by students Erboluly A., Kaiyrbek N., Abdukarimov B., Omirbek N., Sarsenbay A., Askerbek A., Mamyrbaev A., Kasymov B.

The format of the event made it possible to discuss issues of the functioning of languages ​​and expressed their opinion that the development of multilingualism provides a favorable environment that ensures the development of personal qualities, which provide a great opportunity for the further implementation of individual competencies in the chosen profession.

Its holding made it possible to discuss issues and problems of educational practice in conjunction with the processes of development of the modern Kazakhstan and world educational space.

As the participants of the Debate noted, the event provided a fruitful exchange of views and experiences on current issues of education both in Kazakhstan and abroad.
