On October
23, ahead of Republic Day, a meeting was held at METU with academician of the
National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, honored worker of
Kazakhstan, “Honorary Citizen of the Aral District,” Head of the Department of
History of Kazakhstan at the Faculty of History of Al-Farabi KazNU, Doctor of
Historical Sciences, Professor Bereket Bakytzhanovich Karibaev. During the
conversation, Bereket Bakytzhanovich noted that Republic Day, which was
reinstated in the calendar as a national holiday in 2022, is being celebrated
widely in our country for the third time this year. He spoke about the
significance and importance of the Declaration of State Sovereignty and the
role of the national holiday in the life of the country. The professor
mentioned that on October 25, 1990, during a session of the Supreme Soviet of
the Kazakh SSR, the draft of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Kazakh
SSR was discussed and reviewed article by article, with individual voting on
each provision, highlighting the unforgettable contributions of patriotic
Kazakh intellectuals, thanks to whom the declaration was adopted by a majority
vote. During the meeting, students delved deeply into history and engaged in a
lively discussion. Undoubtedly, the event held in honor of Republic Day
instilled confidence in the future, inspired patriotism, and fostered a spirit
of courage and heroism among the students.
