At the beginning of February, as part of the Year of Student Self-Governance, an inspiring literary challenge dedicated to the towering figure of Kazakh poetry, the master of verse, Mukagali Makataev, was launched at the International University of Engineering and Technology. This student-led initiative was warmly supported by the university’s leadership, faculty members, and professors, who actively participated and encouraged young people to engage with the poet’s timeless legacy. Throughout the challenge, literary evenings, advisory sessions, and insightful meetings focused on Mukagali’s works were organized. One of the most memorable events was a special meeting with Tleukhan Orazkhanqyzy Mergenbayeva, a retired educator, a close acquaintance of the poet, and the wife of renowned Mukagali scholar and researcher Zhumash Oteev. Also present was their daughter, the esteemed journalist Arai Zhumashkyzy. This gathering was not just an evening of poetry and reminiscences but a meaningful occasion dedicated to reviving and preserving the great poet’s heritage for future generations. As part of the event, the university library was presented with a valuable book titled Mukagali Shyrakshysy, which explores the life and contributions of Zhumash Oteev. The literary challenge drew nearly a thousand participants who passionately recited Mukagali’s deeply moving poems, sharing them widely on social media. A particularly touching highlight was the participation of international students from 15 different countries, including Egypt, Mongolia, China, Turkey, Russia, Morocco, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and more. Students such as Agiz Hani Mohamed Ebrahim Eldesukki, Onguz Beren, and Meti-Korli Isaac Opar beautifully recited the poet’s works in multiple languages, deeply moving the audience and proving that Mukagali’s poetry transcends borders and cultures.Additionally, a group of students traveled to the poet’s birthplace in Karasaz, Raiymbek district, Almaty region. They visited the Mukagali Museum, paid tribute to his monument in Almaty by laying flowers, and passionately recited his poetry at the memorial site. Such initiatives not only help students master the technical aspects of their engineering studies but also nurture their spiritual and cultural growth. These events inspire a greater appreciation for poetry, promote Mukagali Makataev’s literary heritage, and instill his timeless wisdom in future generations.
The legacy of the great poet is eternal. Honoring it is the sacred duty of every Kazakh.
We sincerely appreciate your dedication to this noble cause and your valuable contributions to promoting cultural and spiritual values!
