NEW HORIZONS IN BIOTECHNOLOGY: ALTERNATIVE PROTEIN SOURCES AND THEIR IMPACT ON THE FUTURE OF NUTRITION

Invited Professor from South Ural State University, Doctor of Technical Sciences Svetlana Pavlovna Merenkova delivered an open lecture for students of the International Engineering and Technological University on the topic "Alternative Protein Sources: New Challenges and Perspectives". The lecture attracted great interest among students and specialists, as it addressed important and relevant issues in the fields of biotechnology and the food industry.

Relevance of the topic:

  1. Eco-technologies for extracting balanced protein from plant-based raw materials: With the increasing interest in healthy lifestyles and plant-based products, the development of eco-technologies aimed at extracting protein from plant materials has become increasingly important. This contributes to improving the population`s welfare, increasing life expectancy, and meeting the growing demand for healthy nutrition, including low-carb and high-protein diets.
  2. Protein components market: There is a shortage of protein components in the Russian market, creating a need to expand the range of products with protein additives. Several sectors of the agro-industrial complex actively use protein additives to create food products, including sports nutrition. At the same time, the volume of secondary resources generated by processing grain raw materials reaches 1.13 million tons per year, which represents significant potential for creating alternative protein sources.

Professor Merenkova`s lecture discussed the prospects for using innovative eco-technologies to develop sustainable and efficient methods of obtaining protein components from plant raw materials. Such approaches could become the foundation for solving urgent issues related to food security and improving the quality of nutrition.

MITU students who attended the lecture had a unique opportunity to learn about the latest achievements in biotechnology and their application in the food industry, which will help develop their professional skills and broaden career opportunities in promising areas of science and technology.
