METU hosted a WING student community event dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan
On the eve of December 16 — the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the International Engineering and Technological University hosted a thematic event organized by the international student community WING, dedicated to significant historical events in the country’s history.
During the event, Karlygash Shokhayeva, Director of the Department of International Cooperation at METU, delivered a welcome address. In her speech, she congratulated students on the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan, emphasized the importance of this national holiday, and noted that Kazakhstan’s independence was achieved at a great cost, highlighting the importance of preserving historical memory and respecting the country’s past.
As part of the event, students presented a presentation dedicated to the events of December 16, 1986, which played a significant role in the formation of national identity and the subsequent independence of Kazakhstan. The presentations addressed the historical background, key developments, and the significance of these events for modern Kazakhstani society.
The event was held in an interactive format. Students actively participated in discussions, answered questions, and shared their knowledge by independently presenting key facts and historical aspects of the December events.
International students — members of the WING community — also took part in the event. They had the opportunity to learn about the history of Kazakhstan, gain deeper insight into the country’s path to independence, and better understand the cultural and historical context of the state in which they study.
Such events contribute to patriotic education, preservation of historical memory, and the development of a multicultural educational environment. The WING student community will continue to implement initiatives aimed at fostering an active and socially responsible student community at METU.
