On December 19, 2025, a round table
entitled “Traditions and Customs of Kazakhstan” was organized at METU.
The event was attended by first-year students majoring in “TMO” and “Tourism”, as well as second-year
students majoring in “Biotechnology”.
The main objective of the round
table was to provide a scientific and cultural discussion of Kazakhstan’s
national traditions and customs, promote national values among young people,
and foster international cultural dialogue.
The event was ceremonially opened
with a performance on the dombra,
the national musical instrument of the Kazakh people. A comprehensive
presentation was delivered highlighting the historical significance of the
dombra, its structure, its role in culture, and its place in the spiritual
worldview of the Kazakh people. This segment increased students’ interest in
national music and enabled a deeper academic understanding of traditions and
culture.
The honored guest of the round table
was Zafarullah Sahito, PhD,
Doctor at Sukkur IBA University
(Sukkur, Sindh Province, Islamic Republic of Pakistan). The meeting with the
guest was held online via the Google
Meet platform. In his speech, Dr. Sahito shared his perspective on
Kazakh culture, emphasized the distinctive features of Kazakh traditions and
customs, and highlighted their significance at the international level. In
addition, similarities and differences between various cultures were discussed
from a comparative perspective.
The event continued with active
student participation in a question-and-answer format and meaningful exchange
of views. The round table was organized at a high academic and cultural level
and contributed to increasing participants’ interest in national values.
In conclusion, the round table
expanded students’ cultural awareness and demonstrated the importance of
promoting national traditions at the international level.
