Open Meeting of the Academic Committee of the “Accounting and Audit” Educational Program at METU

On February 11, 2026, an open meeting of the Academic Committee of the “Accounting and Audit” educational program of the Department of Economics and Business was held at the International Engineering and Technology University (MITU). The meeting was dedicated to the development and updating of educational programs in line with current labor market requirements and professional standards.

Employers, faculty members, and students took part in the committee’s work. During the meeting, draft educational programs were reviewed, and issues related to their updating in accordance with the strategic priorities of higher education development were discussed.

Special attention was paid to the formation of graduates’ professional competencies, strengthening the practice-oriented approach to education, and integrating theoretical training with real tasks in the financial and economic sector.

The Chairperson of the Sectoral Council for Professional Qualifications in the field of financial and economic activities under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Economics, Professor Mirzhakipova S.T., delivered a speech. She noted that work on improving the “Accounting and Audit” educational program has been underway since September 2025. At the initiative of the Head of the Department, Zhulduz Tursunovna, meetings were organized with employers and representatives of ACCA, during which directions for program modernization were discussed.

According to Sedef Toktamuratovna, the titles of the disciplines remained unchanged; however, the content of several subjects was updated in line with employers’ recommendations and ACCA requirements.

Asel Shkubanova, Relationship Development Manager at ACCA for Central Asia, Armenia, and Mongolia, also spoke, emphasizing that the educational programs fully comply with ACCA requirements. She highlighted that for the past three years MITU has been coordinating program content with the professional community, contributing to maintaining a high level of specialist training.

The Financial Director of “IFC COLOS” LLP, Grishchenko, noted that earlier at the Employers’ Forum she had proposed revising certain topics of disciplines due to amendments to the Tax Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Currently, appropriate additions have been made to the content of the “Taxes” discipline, and placing the course in the 6th semester is considered justified and timely.

Student Ulbosyn Serikova, speaking on behalf of the students, proposed moving the discipline “Computerization of Accounting (1C)” to the 7th semester. According to her, certain difficulties arose when studying the course in the third year, as more in-depth prior training in several профиль disciplines is required for effective mastery.

Associate Professor Gabdullin, who also serves as Financial Director of “Ritm Oil” LLP, supported the students’ opinion. As the instructor of the discipline, he agreed on the need to adjust its position in the curriculum. He also emphasized that graduates of the educational programs are in demand in the labor market and are employed in large companies, including KPMG.

Following the discussion, the members of the Academic Committee decided to take into account the proposals and recommendations voiced in further improvement of the educational programs. In particular, they supported considering the possibility of moving the discipline “Computerization of Accounting (1C)” to a later semester and continuing work on updating course content in accordance with legislative changes and employers’ needs.

It was noted that regular dialogue with representatives of the professional community, employers, and students allows for timely responses to changes in the financial and economic sphere and ensures high-quality specialist training.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants expressed their readiness for further cooperation and emphasized the importance of holding such open meetings as an effective platform for constructive exchange of views and joint decision-making on the development of educational programs.
