METU students visited the Abylkhan Kasteev State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The A. Kasteev State Museum of Arts, one of the largest art museums in the country, was recently reopened after extensive renovation and modernization of its exhibitions in honor of its 90th anniversary.

Within the framework of the work plan of the Center “Әділетті Қазақстан – Адал Азамат” under the direction “METU as a Zone of Creative Ideas – Warm Heart”, lecturers of the Department of Social-Humanitarian Disciplines and World Languages, G. G. Tsyrenzhapova and A. B. Nurtazaeva, organized a tour for first-year students of the educational program 6B06201 – Radio Engineering, Electronics, and Telecommunications on February 19, 2026.

During the visit, students became acquainted with the works of Kazakhstan’s People’s Artist Abilkhan Kasteev, among which the portraits of A. Kunanbayev, Ch. Valikhanov, A. Imanov, as well as the paintings “Turksib”, “Kolhoz Celebration”, “Mountain Landscape”, and others made a particularly strong impression. The master’s works allowed students to trace the development of Kazakh painting, as well as the depiction of historical events and everyday life of the people.

Students also paid special attention to works by classic masters of world art: Russian painting from the portraits by Rokotov and Levitsky to the landscapes of Aivazovsky, Levitan, and Repin as well as graphics and paintings by Western European masters of the 19th-20th centuries. Students noted the high artistic value of the exhibition of Kazakh artists and sculptors, the diversity of styles– from realism to modernism and the opportunity to engage directly with original works of art.

Familiarity with various artistic styles, the symbolism of works, and the historical context of their creation contributed to broadening students’ horizons, developing aesthetic taste, and fostering interest in national and world art. METU plans to continue organizing cultural excursions aimed at the comprehensive development of students’ personalities.
