ALMATY, 2026 — Students of the International Engineering and Technological University (METU) actively participated in a city-wide clean-up event at the First President’s Park. Organized as part of the "Taza Qala" (Clean City) ecological campaign, this initiative reflects the university’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Participation in such events directly contributes to SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 13: Climate Action. METU students demonstrated high environmental awareness by cleaning recreational zones and caring for the green areas of one of the city`s most prominent landmarks.
"For METU, participating in the `Taza Qala` campaign is more than just a clean-up; it is a systematic effort to foster ESG-thinking among future engineers and technologists. We teach our students to take responsibility for the ecological state of the urban environment," — noted the METU Department of Youth Policy.
Key Engagement Indicators:
Volunteer Involvement: Students from all university departments united for collective environmental action.
Social Contribution: Cleaning and beautification of over 5 hectares of park area.
Eco-Education: Promoting a culture of respect for natural resources among the youth.
METU continues to integrate sustainability principles into student life, supporting city and national initiatives. This activity serves as a vital indicator of the university`s social responsibility and its contribution to the regional ecosystem.
