At a recent meeting of the Department of Economics and Business at the International Engineering and Technology University (METU), a key discussion and presentation of a new graduate course — "Green Entrepreneurship and Innovation" — took place.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in the university`s strategy to support the "green" and digital transition in higher education. Professor A.N. Toksanova presented the educational and methodical complex (EMC), which is the result of extensive international cooperation within the Erasmus+ program and the GreenTech Horizons project.
During the discussion, the following key components of the discipline were highlighted:
Comprehensive Approach: The course consists of 15 lectures covering everything from the foundations of sustainable development to the design of smart energy systems.
AI as a Learning Driver: The department emphasized the methodology of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a pedagogical tool. Master`s students will utilize AI for modeling environmental scenarios, data analysis, and solving case studies related to green innovations.
Interdisciplinary Focus: The program integrates the environmental agenda with issues of cybersecurity, data ethics, and digital business transformation.
Head of the Department, Zh.T. Dildebaeva, emphasized that the implementation of the course is based on the experience of leading European technical universities — Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania) and Riga Technical University (Latvia). This ensures that IUET students have access to world-class knowledge in:
1. Building sustainable business models;
2. Developing "Smart City" concepts;
3. Managing innovations with minimal environmental impact.
"The introduction of this discipline will allow us not only to provide theoretical knowledge but also to build digital competencies in our students that are highly demanded in the international labor market," noted Professor S.T. Mirzhakipova during the discussion.
Following the expert review, the educational and methodical complex was approved for integration into the academic process. The use of AI tools and the focus on green technologies have proven effective for training a new generation of professionals.
