Eco-innovations in Bioengineering: Department of Biochemical Engineering Implements Advanced Erasmus+ Standards

The International of Engineering and Technology University (METU) continues to scale its participation in the Erasmus+ GreenTech Horizons project. A significant milestone was the recent meeting of the Department of Biochemical Engineering, where the implementation of a new discipline — "Ecology and Sustainable Development" — was officially discussed.

Developed in close integration with European scientific and educational expertise, this course aims to train a new generation of engineers capable of harmoniously combining industrial progress with environmental safety. The launch of this discipline allows for the direct integration of "green" chemistry and circular economy principles into the curriculum.

Key areas of the course:

Green Eco-design: Designing biochemical systems with minimal carbon footprints.

Resource Conservation: Mastering zero-waste production technologies and efficient bio-resource processing.

Digitalization and AI: Applying neural networks for environmental risk forecasting and the intellectual optimization of laboratory research.

Head of the Department, E.Solodova, highlighted the great significance of this step for the development of METU’s educational potential:

"The introduction of the `Ecology and Sustainable Development` course is a qualitative breakthrough. By relying on international Erasmus+ expertise, we provide our students with access to cutting-edge European methodologies. This not only expands academic mobility opportunities but also makes our graduates highly sought-after leaders in the global biochemical technology market."
