May 31 is observed in Kazakhstan as the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Political Repression and Famine. This significant date serves as a time to reflect on the tragic periods in our nation’s history and to honor the memory of those who suffered unjustly.
To commemorate this day, the METU Library organized a book exhibition entitled “Lessons from History – Honoring the Past.”
The exhibition featured publications dedicated to the lives and legacies of Kazakh intellectuals who became victims of political repression, as well as historical and documentary literature describing the devastating consequences of the famine. The exhibition not only introduced readers to important chapters of the nation’s history but also encouraged an appreciation of Kazakhstan’s independence, the preservation of historical memory, and a sense of responsibility toward the future of the nation.
