On 9 July 2026, the International Engineering and Technological University (METU) held the award ceremony for the winners of the annual "METU Best Young Researcher – 2026" competition. The ceremony took place as part of the university`s graduation event celebrating its graduates.

Supporting scientific research and fostering young talent are among the key priorities of Kazakhstan`s national policy. The Head of State has repeatedly emphasized that the advancement of science, the preparation of highly qualified professionals, and the creation of opportunities for talented young people to realize their potential are essential drivers of the country`s sustainable development. In line with these national priorities, the International Engineering and Technological University consistently implements initiatives aimed at identifying, supporting, and developing promising young researchers.

One of the competition`s distinctive features is its unique format. Unlike many research competitions that primarily target established researchers, early-career scientists, or doctoral candidates, METU is among the first universities in Kazakhstan to introduce a comprehensive evaluation system covering all levels of higher education—bachelor`s, master`s, and doctoral studies. This approach enables the university to identify talented researchers from the earliest stages of their academic journey, build a strong pipeline of future scientists, and actively engage students in research throughout their education.

More than 30 students participated in the 2026 competition. The submitted research projects were evaluated by an expert committee based on the relevance of the research, scientific novelty, practical significance, publication record, and the authors` individual contributions. The winners were awarded diplomas and cash prizes in recognition of their outstanding research achievements.
