UPDATE OF OP «6B05101 – BIOTECHNOLOGY»

On February 17, 2026, the department held a meeting dedicated to improving the educational program «6B05101 – Biotechnology».

Representatives of employers took part in the discussion: Candidate of Biological Sciences, leading researcher at the Scientific and Production Center of Microbiology and Virology Saltanat Emilyevna Orazymbet; PhD, Deputy Director for Production at the Scientific and Production Center of Microbiology and Virology Zhanar Shadibekovna Zhumadilova; Tamara Abdullayevna Bukeeva, Head of the Laboratory of Immunology at the Scientific Center for Anti-Infective Drugs, as well as the faculty of the department and students of the educational program.

During the meeting, proposals were considered to update the curriculum of the educational program, taking into account current trends in the development of biotechnology, achievements in biomedical science and the needs of employers.

Following the discussion, it was decided to update a number of academic disciplines.:

• replace the discipline «Food Chemistry» with «Physical and Colloidal Chemistry»;

• replace the discipline «Modern methods of biotechnology» with «Biostatistics»;

• replace the discipline «Biotechnology of milk and dairy products» with «Immunobiology»;

• Replace the discipline «Biotechnology of meat and meat products» with «Graphical modeling in biotechnology».

The changes introduced are aimed at strengthening the fundamental, biomedical and digital training of students, developing competencies in data analysis, modeling biotechnological processes and applying modern research methods in biotechnology.

The representatives of employers stressed the importance of regularly updating the content of the educational program in accordance with current trends in the development of science, technology and biotechnological production. In their opinion, the inclusion of new disciplines will allow students to acquire relevant knowledge and practical skills necessary for successful professional activity in research organizations, biotechnological enterprises and innovative laboratories, as well as increase the competitiveness of graduates in the labor market.
