The Kazakh people have always held the older generation in high regard, honoring elders and giving them a place of respect within the family. Their life experience is invaluable, and their words of wisdom often serve as guidance and inspiration for younger generations.

There is a Kazakh saying: “The wisdom of elders is like an endless sea.” Indeed, the values, guidance, and personal example of the older generation play an important role in shaping the character of today’s youth.

To promote these values, an open event dedicated to the Day of Older Persons, “A Home with Elders Is a Home Rich in Wisdom,” was held with the participation of METU students.

The event provided an opportunity to discuss relationships between older and younger generations, respect for grandparents, intergenerational continuity, and the importance of family values.

Respect for elders is a responsibility of the younger generation and a lasting example for those who come after us.
