At METU University, students presented and
defended their independent assignments on “My University” as part of
the “Foreign Language” course, under the guidance of Beisegul Dina Talgatkyzy, an instructor in the Department of
Social Sciences, Humanities and World Languages. Completed in accordance with
the course syllabus, the assignment combined English communication practice
with creative exploration and the use of artificial intelligence. Students
shared their perspectives on university life through comics, visual materials
and role-play performances. English-language dialogues and scenarios drawn from
everyday student experiences provided opportunities to apply relevant
vocabulary and express ideas clearly and coherently. During the presentations,
participants explained their materials to the class, performed character roles
and shared the results of their teamwork. The assignment therefore extended
beyond preparing a written text to include speaking, listening and
collaboration.
A distinctive feature was the combination
of AI-assisted visual content with students’ own language and creative choices.
This approach places importance on understanding the topic, using language
appropriately and being able to explain the work presented. Using AI also
entails responsibility for verifying information, carefully editing texts and
maintaining academic integrity.
“My University” gave students an opportunity to describe their learning environment in
English and express their views on university life. This format connects
language learning with practical experience while supporting independent work
and public speaking.
