Andrey Bobin, a student of the Tourism educational programme at the International Engineering and Technology University, took second place at a powerlifting championship held in Temirtau from 1 to 8 October 2026.

Powerlifting is a strength sport that requires considerable physical power, endurance, discipline and precise exercise technique. The competition programme consists of three classic barbell movements: the squat, bench press and deadlift.

Each athlete is given three attempts in every exercise. The best result achieved in each of the three movements is included in the final total. The athlete with the highest combined weight wins the competition. Judges and referees ensure that the exercises are performed correctly and that all commands are followed.

Andrey Bobin delivered an impressive performance, demonstrating a high level of preparation, strength of character and determination to succeed, and earned the silver award.

We congratulate Andrey on his well-deserved second place! We wish him good health, new sporting achievements, successful performances and many more victories!

The achievements of METU students demonstrate that determination, hard work and perseverance lead to outstanding results not only in education but also in sport.
