General Provisions

The "English Communication and Culture" Club is a voluntary association of students from the International Engineering and Technology University (METU). In its activities, the club is guided by the Regulation on the Organization of the Educational Process, the Concept of Educational Work, and the Institute’s Development Strategy. The activities of the English Club are coordinated by the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines and World Languages.

Goals and Objectives

Main Goal: To develop students’ communicative competence, creativity, and confidence in using English in academic, professional, and social contexts.

Objectives:

  • To organize extracurricular language and cultural activities that enhance English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
  • To develop public speaking and presentation skills through debates, storytelling, and speech contests.
  • To foster cultural awareness by exploring traditions, lifestyles, and values of English-speaking countries.
  • To unite students by shared interest in learning English and improving global communication skills.
  • To build confidence and teamwork through interactive games, projects, and performances.
  • To encourage creative use of English in songs, poetry, short plays, podcasts, and writing tasks.
  • To prepare students for international communication and exchange programs.

Organization of the Club’s Activities

  • Organization and conduct of regular club meetings (once or twice a month).
  • Discussion of topics proposed by students and approved by the club leader.
  • Preparation for meetings includes:
    • Assigning responsible members for planning;
    • Researching materials (books, videos, online sources);
    • Developing a meeting plan and activities;
    • Inviting guest speakers or English teachers;
    • Preparing reports and reflections after each meeting.
  • Organizing language games, speaking clubs, reading circles, and movie discussions.
  • Visiting cultural centers, exhibitions, and events related to English language and culture.
  • Participating in inter-university English competitions and events.

Management of the Club

The club is managed by the Club Leader, who:

  • Coordinates meetings and plans events;
  • Assigns responsibilities among members;
  • Ensures productive participation and teamwork.

Membership

Membership in the club is open to all METU students interested in improving their English proficiency. Members are expected to:

  • Participate actively in meetings and events;
  • Respect club rules and each other;
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere.

Material Support

The club uses university facilities and resources for its meetings, including classrooms, projectors, and multimedia equipment.

Final Provisions

This Charter comes into force upon approval at the club’s organizational meeting. Amendments and additions are made by the club leader in consultation with active members and the Department.
