Student Community “METU Green Future”

METU Green Future is the official voluntary association of students of the International Engineering and Technology University (METU), whose activities are aimed at implementing the principles of sustainable development, environmental responsibility, and ESG standards in the academic and social environment.
Status: An official body of student self-governance, approved by the decision of the Academic Council. The community serves as a key instrument for implementing the UN global agenda within the university.

Mission and Goals
Mission: To shape a new generation of engineers and leaders equipped with competencies in green technologies and social responsibility.

Our goals:
• Campus greening: Implementation of energy efficiency systems and waste separation (Green Campus).
• STEM innovation: Support for student projects in eco-engineering and bioengineering.
• Gender equality: Promotion of initiatives supporting women in technical fields (Women in STEM).
• Global recognition: Demonstrating METU’s contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals for international rankings (QS, THE).

Integration with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The community’s activities directly contribute to the implementation of the following UN priority goals:
• SDG 4 (Quality Education): Organizing workshops and lectures on sustainable development for all majors.
• SDG 5 (Gender Equality): Mentorship and support programs for women in engineering.
• SDG 7 & 13 (Clean Energy and Climate Action): Development of projects to reduce the university’s carbon footprint.
• SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption): Coordination of recycling systems and reduction of plastic use on campus.
• SDG 17 (Partnerships): Collaboration with international environmental networks and expert groups.

Structure and directions
To ensure effective operations, the community includes the following departments:
1. SDG Projects Department — implementation of socially significant projects.
2. Green Campus Department — environmental transformation of university infrastructure.
3. Education & Awareness — educational campaigns and promotion of eco-culture.
4. Innovation & Green Tech — research and startups in the field of environmental sustainability.
