International Engineering and Technological University (METU, acronym: METU_University) is a unique, innovative, compact higher education institution that quickly adapts to the changes of the modern world. Its location in the heart of the Academic Campus of Almaty, contributed to close integration with leading research institutes located within walking distance. The University is rapidly developing and modernizing, becoming one of the best in the training of engineering personnel.
University was established in 2001 and was called «Kazakhstan Engineering and Technological University». The range of educational programs is diverse: information and communication technologies, software engineering, radio engineering, electronics, energy, technological machines and equipment, standardization and certification, life safety, technologies and engineering of food production, bioinformatics, biotechnology, fruit and vegetable growing and agro-soil science, chemical technologies, as well as finance, accounting and auditing, marketing, tourism innovative technologies in economics, etc. Today METU is one of the best universities in Kazakhstan, which trains in-demand and highly competent specialists on the basis of educational programs recognized by international accreditation agencies. METU trains specialists, both under state grants and at a paid department within the framework of bachelor's, master's and doctoral PhD programs.
The teaching staff of METU_University are highly qualified specialists, research scientists, academics, professors, associate professors, aimed at nurturing future specialists, as well as capable of instilling a huge interest in the chosen specialty, captivate students with science, reveal the talents of students. They carry out a number of scientific research, including within the framework of grant funding and international projects in such areas as: building a scientific and educational cluster based on the integrated distributed information system of Academic town; development of a special software package for educational institutions; analysis and processing of big data based on BI-technologies; production of modern composite material based on man-made waste; development of experimental samples of autonomous robotic systems; creation of high-molecular sorbents; development of an industrial sample of a pumping unit for the oil and gas industry; development of an effective technology for the disposal of oil waste; development of high-tech technologies for deep processing of agricultural raw materials in order to expand the range and output of finished products from a unit of raw materials, as well as reduce the share of waste in the production of products and others.
Material and technical base of the University is replenished every year. Textbooks and teaching aids for universities are published both on the basis of university itself and are purchased from outside. The innovative library, designed in accordance with the latest design canons, contributes to the formation of a comfortable environment for mastering new knowledge. Currently, International Engineering and Technological University has an extensive and modern material and technical base to ensure a high-quality and continuous educational process. The developed information technology infrastructure of the university allows conducting all types of disciplinary and interdisciplinary training, laboratory, practical, research work of students, masters and doctoral students. The "Safe Campus" system operates on the basis of a centralized video surveillance system and checkpoints. All students and teaching staff have access to an electronic information and educational environment based on a personal account - ais.metu. Students have access to an electronic schedule, academic materials on disciplines, tests, questionnaires, an information field and other services that can be requested in this system. At the beginning of 2012, a new academic building was put into operation at 89/21 Al-Farabi Ave.
In 2019, a new modern student house (residence) was put into operation. Comfortable living conditions for students have been created in the student house. Free Internet access via Wi-Fi, a buffer zone, a luxurious conference room, laundry and round-the-clock security provide an environment of well-being, security and care.
The main goal of university from the first days of its existence is the high quality of knowledge received by students, and accessibility, which is provided due to low cost of training.
In 2022, as a result of expansion of its international activities, availability of international accreditation, invitations to University to teach foreign professors and experts, signing agreements with the world's leading universities on student exchange, academic mobility and practice abroad, the university transformed into an International University. Now our students can practice not only at the leading enterprises of Kazakhstan, but also in foreign organizations, adopting the most advanced experience. Active cooperation is being conducted both with research institutes of the Republic of Kazakhstan and with foreign research centers, where undergraduates and doctoral students have the opportunity to carry out scientific research in the most technologically advanced conditions. World-renowned scientists come to our University to hold lectures, seminars, and share their experience. Open lectures are held on the basis of University, which can be attended by everyone, as well as international conferences on topical issues of science and technology are held.
METU today closely cooperates with educational, scientific and business organizations from the USA, Canada, Germany, Turkey, Great Britain, Latvia, Bulgaria, Japan, Korea, France, Russia, Nigeria, etc.
University, realizing the importance of the involvement of the younger generation in real business processes, in 2020 opened the business incubator "BIK" - a modern, internationally functioning organization that supports youth entrepreneurship. Properly organized incubator infrastructure helps to see the results of the idea faster than under normal conditions. Organization of useful meetings, trainings and educational courses that prepare businessmen to enter the "free swimming". The incubator cooperates with foreign and domestic universities, institutes, research institutes, industrial enterprises, NCE "Atameken", foundations, which gives access to research results, special equipment and necessary resources. Information support is provided here – providing access to catalogs, databases and reference books; assistance in finding investors, including paperwork for applying for a grant, as well as independent attraction of investors and grants; assistance in obtaining bank guarantees; assistance with advertising, creating your own style, finding exhibition venues and squares, providing an opportunity to participate in specialized exhibitions and conferences. Demoday is held: investors, startup ecosystem players, accelerators and tech entrepreneurs share their experience and knowledge.
In October 2022, the International HUB was opened, an organization that unites scientific and educational institutions from Turkey, the UK, the USA, Germany, Canada, etc. in its project activities. Main activity: development of new technologies in the field of IT and Big Data, artificial intelligence, robotic systems, telecommunications and communications. Thanks to the International HUB, university students have the opportunity to participate in real projects of customers from abroad with appropriate financial support.
International academic mobility METU_University is a unique experience of studying under special programs at one of the foreign partner universities, which allows you to enrich yourself with new knowledge, ideas and make new friends. Each METU_University student has opportunity to travel abroad for 4 years of study under one of the following programs: double-degree programs; internship programs based on foreign enterprises; short-term training: exchange modules; summer and winter schools; exchange programs.
METU's student life is bright and diverse. There are 42 clubs, cheerful and resourceful club, seasonal events and celebrations are held (Autumn Ball, New Year's Eve, March 8, Nauryz), the MissMETU university beauty contest, allow the creative potential of young people to be revealed, which is extremely important for the university. Participation in clean-up-event and charity events form civic responsibility and lay a strong moral foundation.

International Engineering and Technological University is doing everything possible to ensure that a healthy lifestyle becomes the norm for every student. The University is equipped with special medical offices with qualified specialists who provide first aid on the spot with high quality, and, if necessary, promptly contact specialized medical institutions. In 2022, a medical student outpatient clinic "DostarMed" was opened and successfully operates, providing advice to employees and students. Here, qualified medical workers provide emergency pre-medical care in case of accidents, acute illnesses and injuries, followed by calling an ambulance doctor to the patient or sending him to the nearest medical and preventive institution for consultation with a specialist doctor; they can carry out medical procedures (including injections) according to the prescriptions of specialist doctors using medicines and consumables. Services are provided in accordance with the requirements of quality, safety of life and health, standards and procedures of medical care, as well as other safety requirements established by the current legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. If desired, students and employees are given seasonal vaccination according to the national vaccination calendar. Medical care is provided by doctors of the highest and first qualification categories, nurses with extensive work experience. If necessary, anti-epidemiological measures are carried out. On the basis of contracts with relevant organizations, disinfection, deratization and disinfection works are regularly carried out.
